A Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe – NOT the 1949 Mercury Club Coupe that was the Sheriff in the movie.   Fun fact:  The sheriff was voiced by Michael Wallis, a Route 66 historian that led the film makers on their tour of Route 66 before making the movie.   Michael Wallis also wrote the “Route 66 – The Mother Road” one of the books that I used as part of my guidance for this trip.  I also used the “EZ 66 Guide for Travelers, written by Jerry McClanahan, and its associated maps.
