We knew our Route 66 explorations were coming to an end when we saw the Colorado River appear out of the desert. We crossed the Colorado River on I-40, hit the first exit in CA, turned around and began the drive back to Kingman, AZ and our hotel. Using I-40 made the trip significantly quicker, tough VASTLY less interesting and fun.
The next day we were off to the Grand Canyon Skywalk (glass overlook over the Grand Canyon) and then to Las Vegas, Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. On Tuesday, September 13, after we dumped the rental car that had been our home away from home for the past 10 days, we made the direct flight back to Wichita.
